Mickael's Story

“He sings, he skis, he swims, he rides horses — ZTTK did not write the boundaries of his life.”

Mickael was born in 1999 in France at 34 weeks, weighing just under 2 kilograms. He was diagnosed with hypothyroidism early on, and seizures were managed with medication. He took his first independent steps at age three — a milestone his family celebrated with tears of joy.

For over twenty years, his family navigated his care without knowing the underlying cause. When Mickael was 21, genetic testing finally revealed a ZTTK diagnosis. Rather than a setback, the diagnosis was a relief — it connected two decades of questions into a single answer.

Now in his mid-twenties, Mickael lives a rich and social life. He sings, engages warmly with the people around him, and participates in adapted sports including skiing, horseback riding, and swimming. His story offers hope to newly diagnosed families: a ZTTK diagnosis is the beginning of understanding, not a limit on what is possible.
